My name is Valerie Minter Edwards. I am a Hooks graduate and earned my B.S. from East Texas State University (now known as Texas A&M - Texarkana) with a major in English and minor in history. I am certified to teach grades 1 through 12, and this year marks my twenty-seventh year in the education field. Though I have a varied background, this is my sixteenth year to teach third grade in the Hooks school system. 

I have a passion for music and have the privilege to play keyboard in the orchestra at our home church, Myrtle Springs Baptist Church. I also enjoying making a joyful noise through singing.  I love to worship and spend quality time with my family, friends, and church family. 

Welcome to Mrs. Edwards' reading class. I look forward to a fun and prosperous year. You can help your child reach his/her potential by encouraging him/her to read an AR book each night for approximately 30 minutes. This will assist the fluency rate and increase the amount of comprehension. Remember, one can visit anywhere they desire simply by reading a good book. Thank you for sharing your child with me.
